The Office of the General Counsel promotes, advocates for, and protects all legal interests of the Social Security Administration. Attorneys in the Office of the General Counsel partner with the Department of Justice to represent the Social Security Administration in litigation before federal district and appellate courts. Attorneys also provide guidance to and represent the agency in employment litigation before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Merit Systems Protection Board, and labor arbitrators. There are also opportunities to handle a variety of other legal issues, including family and trust law, torts, ethics, bankruptcy, civil rights, and Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act issues. Attorney positions are located in the Richard Bolling Federal Building in Kansas City, Missouri.
